Christine  graduated from Guys in 1980 and worked in practices in Guildford and Woking before coming to West Byfleet.

Christine has an enormous interest in learning and improving her dental skills and attends a great number of courses throughout each year. She also organises and teaches on courses for dentists and dental team members.

Christine was the Chair of Women in Dentistry from 1998 – 2000. This appointment opened many opportunities for Christine including leading women dentist delegation to China in 2000 and to Cuba in 2003 for the People to People Ambassadors programme.

Until recently Christine was secretary of the board of the Womens Dentists Worldwide section of the International Dental Federation. She organised the section meetings in Shenzen and Dubai.

Closer to home, Christine set up, and continues to manage the Guildford Dental Study Group which meets monthly at The Royal Surrey County Hospital. She is also Regional Dental Tutor for Surrey and West Sussex.

The Fellowship in General Dental Practice is seen as the educational assessment allowing general dental practitioners to demonstrate achievement of the highest standard of education and knowledge. Christine was one of the first dentists in the UK to achieve this herself, and is now a member of the board of assessors. She has recently been a tutor for the Diploma in Restorative Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is the MJDF examination tutor for the local division of the Faculty of General Practitioners. She was also recently on the editorial board of Dental Health, the journal of the British Society of Dental Hygienist and Therapies.

Christine is President Designate for the Southern Counties Branch of the British Dental Association and takes over as president in March 2014.

Christine is employed as an educational advisor for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery. Her role originally was to support dentists returning from a career break but also now works with dentists from overseas to help produce educational plans to further their training.

As well as helping other dentists to identify their own educational needs, Christine continues to enhance her own training with regular attendance courses in the UK and abroad relevant to improving her own skills and techniques.

Richard is our periodontal specialist who works in the practice one session per month. He sees patients who have been diagnosed with the advanced form of gum disease called Periodontitis.

Richard qualified as a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Dundee University in 1980. He gained his Membership in General Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1992 and his MSc (with Distinction) in Periodontology from the Eastman Dental Institute (University of London) in 1996. In that year he became the first Director of the tri-Service Defence Dental Agency School of Dental Hygiene, where he combined clinical teaching with an extensive periodontal referral service. He was registered as a Specialist in Periodontics by the General Dental Council (GDC) in 1998 and gained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2003. He is retained as a medico-legal Expert in Periodontology.

Richard has lectured and published research internationally and is a past Member of Council of the British Society of Periodontology and examining boards of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the GDC. He has been a full-time clinician as a periodontist since 1996, and currently continues to combine his ongoing academic research into Periodontal Risk-Assessment with lecturing and freelance specialist practice.

 Susie Burke

We had the great pleasure in welcoming Susie to the practice earlier this year. You will be greeted by Susie’s friendly face on the reception as well as assisting all the team in their daily duties. With previous experience at RHS Wisley Gardens Susie uses her skilled green fingers to attend to our plant life such as our wonderful Orchids.

Susie has enthusiastically commenced her retraining and is currently studying infection control and health and safety, and Susie has also attended lectures on Medical Conditions affecting the oral cavity and dental treatment and Menopause and the oral implications as well as many more.

Tina quailified as a Dental nurse in November 1979 in West London while she was working in the Community Dental Services. Tina registered with the GDC in 2008 and regularly updates her skills and knowledge with training and education. Tina is responsible for all our sterilization and health and safety procedure. Tina has undertaken the Appointed Persons First Aid.

Tina keeps busy with four grown girls to look after. Tina is also a member of the local Rock Choir group and she has sung at big venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and will this year be performing at the O2 in London.

Cher joined the practice in 2005, and trained to be a dental nurse, passing her DNart course during her year with us. She then went on to study at University and gain a BSc in Applied Zoology and has worked for a number of charitable organisations. Cher moved back to Surrey in 2012 and returned to the practice to offer new consultative skills. She is developing the environmental sector of the practice through analysis such as carrying out energy audits, researching into greener practices and submitting an application to be granted a Green award by the Eco-dentistry Association. She is also responsible for the websites rejuvenation and refreshes the content regularly to keep patients updated. Cher enjoys using her creativity abilities and crafts in some of the marketing material that you may see.
