…. on a very Successful Presidential meeting
Christine was appointed President of the Southern Counties Branch of the British Dental Association on 27th March 2014 and she has recently organised the Presidential Scientific Meeting, followed by a dinner which took place on 28th March at the rather splendid Radisson Blu Hotel Guildford.
Christine was delighted to welcome dentists, dental nurses and dental professionals to the 128th Presidential meeting of the Southern Counties Branch of the British Dental Association. She chose Oral Medicine and medical aspects of oral care as the theme for this meeting as the dental team is increasingly expected to have a wider understanding of the complex medical problems and interventions of the patients who attend their practices. These problems and interventions can often have an impact on oral health. The issues around the dry mouth is very important to any restorative treatment planning and we are very pleased that Professor Stephen Challacombe who developed the Challacombe Scale of Oral Dryness agreed to be the keynote speaker.
The scientific programme contained fascinating lectures including:
- Recognising and managing the dry mouth by Professor Stephen Challacombe,
- Lumps, Bumps and White Bits–examination and appropriate management of intra-& extra-oral soft tissue abnormalities by Mr Paul Johnson,
- Skin Cancer- Assessing facial skin abnormalities, the dental clinicians’ role by Ms Carrie Newlands,
- Medical Conditions affecting the oral cavity and dental treatment and Menopause and the oral implications by Dr Richard Snoad.
